About the State of Georgia

- Georgia is the 4th state.
- Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Peaches originated in China. The peach tree actually belongs to the same family as the rose, and early peaches were small, tart, very fuzzy, and had more pit than fruit. The peach became the official fruit of Georgia in 1995.
- Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi River.
- Georgia is the location of Stone Mountain, a popular tourist attraction.
- On 28 August, 1963, Martin Luther King (born in Atlanta on January 15, 1929), delivered his magnificent “"I HAVE A DREAM" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington.
- Georgia is the nation's leading producer of peanuts.
- Georgia is the birthplace of the 39th president, James Earl Carter, Jr.
- Georgia, also called the Goober State, features a 9 foot tall statue of a peanut.
- In 1887, an Atlantic drugstore became the first place in the world to serve a drink called Coca-Cola.
